Reviews for the Tower City Chronicles

Tanya Heaslip

It takes a very skilled and creative writer to blend character and plot with just the right amount of balance, and even more so when there are multiple characters and multiple plots split between five books set over a time frame of five weeks.

Sean Guy has achieved this extraordinary outcome in his first three Tower City Chronicles, a tightly plotted and tightly woven urban fantasy series set between different worlds, beginning inside a claustrophobic city of New York type proportions.

The first in the series, The Firebringer, kicks off the story, throwing us into revenge, love, murder and chaos as crime lords, otherworld creatures and gang bosses fight for justice and supremacy. Voodoo Games follows, keeping the action and suspense and drama high, twisting the plot to give greater focus on different characters.

Seraph, the third-just-released in the series, kicks the stakes even higher and the real descent into madness and hell begins. New characters are introduced, old ones are miraculously given a second chance at life, and the fight to the death for power and revenge continues at breakneck speed.

No one is safe in this terrifying world where good rarely prevails, bad mostly does, yet the reader is crouched breathlessly on the edge of their chair, still hoping for the best in every page turning chapter. Bring on the next two books!

Sean Guy spent 10 years plotting these books and it shows. His tireless, intricately skilled work has paid off. Each character is comprehensively fleshed out and he does a remarkable thing: he makes us even sympathise with even the worst of the bad guys (or girls, and Harlequin in particular is as bad as it gets), yet keeps us hoping that good will ultimately prevail over evil.

Do yourself a favour, as Molly Meldrum would say, and pick up a copy today!

Sit down and strap yourselves in. Sean Guy's latest is an action thriller. I couldn't put the book down.

Great start to the Chronicles... fast moving, great characters.. a must read for when Book 2 Voodoo Games comes available.... it’s even better!

I really enjoyed being in this world. The characters are written well, and have a complexity I wasn’t expecting in this genre. Prometheus, I would have to say, is one of my favourite characters and I hope to find out more about his back story. Hayley is a loose canon, yet I can’t help but be drawn into her dark moods and humour.

The author has given us a wonderful beginning to the series and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

Pain, grief and loss is hard enough when you lose a loved one suddenly and violently but what would you do if you found out who was to blame. They say revenge is best served cold but in this case it burns hot. A ripping good yarn, thanks Sean!

Great book from a local author. Had a genre-changing event past the first half of the book that really surprised and excited me! Can't wait to read the next one of the series!

I loved it! ... The action scenes all had a Matthew Reilly style "Wow, this is so cool!" flavour, which was awesome.

OMG... the most exhilarating, fast paced book I've read in a long time... Firebringer was great, [Voodoo Games] is next level!

Wow! Exhausted after the wild ride of the Firebringer. Tower City is the most exciting place I have ever visited. Almost need medical insurance to read this novel. Love this world and want to explore it more. Bring on the next book! Fantastic!

Goodreads Review

Firebringer was an exciting read where the main characters grabbed me from the start and took me on a journey into the dark underworld of a city. I never knew if I would encounter a gangster or less human creature of darkness. Perhaps they would help, perhaps the body count would increase. Lots of twists and surprises in this wonderfully dark but unique urban fantasy world. Can not wait until the next book comes out.
